Laser Dentistry in Phoenix

What is Laser Dentistry?

Your Puja dentist offers ezlase treatment to improve your comfort and provide better results from your dental procedures. ezlase Laser Dentistry is an emerging standard in dentistry, enabled by the soft-tissue ezlase systems from Biolase. Dental fear and anxiety is real and for many people can be a barrier to seeking treatment. Drills, needles and numb lips can prevent people from taking a positive, proactive approach to oral health. ezlase Dentistry changes the dynamic. You will experience Ezlase Dentistry as more comfortable, convenient and less invasive. With many procedures it’s possible to use less anesthetic, and in some cases, no anesthetic.

What Can the Ezlase laser do?

Improve Your Smile

With Ezlase Dentistry, you can undergo soft tissue surgical procedures without scalpels, or bleeding. Patients experience minimal swelling and post-operative pain. You can contour or shape your gums using the ezlase to improve the appearance of your smile - safely removing excess gum tissue that may give you a "gummy" smile, or make your front teeth appear irregular in size or shape.

Remove Oral Growths

Your dentist may use the ezlase to remove growths or excess tissue in your mouth such as gum tissue over an unerupted tooth, small "tags" called papilla, groths called fibromas, and others.

Treat or Prevent Periodontal Disease

You can use laser dentistry to remove debris and bacteria between your teeth and gums that can cause bleeding gums, gum recession and even loss of teeth. The laser is highly effective at killing bacteria and may even stimulate gum tissue growth.

Relieve the Pain of Cold Sores and Fever Blisters

The ezlase laser dentistry often provides immediate relief from painful cold sores and fever blisters.

How Does Ezlase Work?

The ezlase is one of the most advanced dental instruments made today. The Ezlase creates special, highly concentrated light energy, and sends it through an optical fiber to its handpiece. Your dentist uses the handpiece to aim the laser energy at precisely the areas to be treated.

The laser energy used by the Ezlase was developed specifically to treat gum and other soft tissue in the mouth safely and comfortably. It can be harmful to eyes, however, so you, your dentist, and anyone else in the treatment room when the laser is being used must wear special protective glasses.

Links to Sleep Dentistry Articles

A few articles on sleep dentistry, including whether being asleep during your dentist appointment is right for you:

Pain Free Sleep Dentistry

I want to be Sedated - Sedation Dentistry

Here are some other reasons why you might want to choose Sleep Dentistry:

  • You have a hard time getting numb by the dentist - with Sleep dentistry you feel no pain.
  • You are going through a extensive procedure that will require multiple visits. With sedation, multiple visits can often be condensed into one visit.
  • You are nervous or anxious about the discomfort you may experience during your procedure.
  • You suffer from a bad gag reflex or needle phobia that can't be controlled.
  • You avoid the dentist because of the stress going to see a dentist causes you.
What Procedures do you offer Sleep Dentistry Treatment?

Puja Dental Group offers sleep dentistry for many procedures, including but not limited to:
  • Tooth Extraction
  • Root Canals
  • Gum Disease Planing and Scaling
  • Placing Dental Implants
  • Porcelain Veneers
  • Even Filings and Crowns
What Will Be The After-Effect Of Sleep Dentistry?

You should have no pain at all after the completion of the sleep dentistry treatment. You will feel as if you have awakened from a relaxed and satisfying sleep. You will also feel wonderful knowing that your dental problem has been taken care of successfully without any amount of discomfort.

How Long Will You Be Asleep?

It varies on what procedure you are having performed, but no longer than a maximum span of six hours for the treatment. Simple extractions can often be finished in under a half hour.

Is There Any Need To Have Someone Accompany You to the Procedure?

Yes, you will need someone to drive you home after the treatment, as the sedatives make it unwise to drive after the procedure. It can also boost your moral confidence to have someone be there when you wake up.

Are You Monitored During the Procedure?

Our patients are monitored a member of our staff is always with you keeping an eye on your state.

Accomplished Sedation Dentist Joins Puja Dental Group’s 5 Offices in the Phoenix, Arizona area

Dr. John Patterson, D.M.D. brings expertise in Dental Implants and IV Sedation to Puja Dental Group patients in November

MESA, AZ October 21, 2008 – Puja Dental Group announced today the addition of a new dentist that will be working out of all 5 Phoenix area dental offices. Dr. John Patterson, D.M.D., brings his expertise in Cosmetic, Implant, and Sleep dentistry to patients of all of the Puja Dental Group offices, starting in November 2008.

Dr. Patterson graduated from the University of Pittsburgh and has been practicing general dentistry in Arizona for the past 6 years. His major focus has been on general, cosmetic, dental implants, and sedation (sleep) dentistry. Dr. Patterson will be working out of all offices, giving residents from Chandler to Scottsdale to Peoria the opportunity to have all of their dental procedures taken care of while in a sleep like state, never remembering the actual procedure and feeling absolutely no pain.

Dr. Patterson is licensed by the Arizona State Board of Dental Examiners to practice Dentistry in the State of Arizona.

“Puja Dental Group is very proud to have Dr. Patterson join our team of dentists,” said Dr. Girija Nadarajan, owner of Puja Dental Group. “We really wanted to give our patients the option of being fully sedated during their procedures, as many are very nervous or have difficulty becoming numb by standard oral injections. Now all of our patients, no matter what their procedure or dentist, can sleep through their procedure at the office close to their home without having to go see a specialist.”

Puja Dental Group has five Phoenix sleep dentist locations across the valley for their patients to choose from, including offices in Gilbert, Chandler, Mesa, Scottsdale, and Peoria/Glendale. Each office will now offer sleep dentistry for their patients, to make dentistry convenient for our patients. In addition, any procedure is an option for sleep dentistry, including extractions, dental implants, deep cleaning, dentures, root canals, and dental veneers.
Another advantage to being sedated during your dental procedures, is that complex dental treatments that could require six to eight appointments, can be done in as little as one! In addition to the extensive training that Dr. John Patterson has received, all patients are continuously monitored during their IV Sedation appointment using the latest technology, making IV Sedation the safest sedation option available.
To schedule an appointment with Dr. John Patterson to find out more about sedation dentistry, call the Puja Dental Group offices at (888) 785-2336.

Dental Emergencies - Knocked Out Teeth

Dental emergencies happen: a tooth is knocked out, broken or chipped, you have a horrible toothache and don’t know the cause, you break your jaw, an object gets stuck in your teeth and you can’t remove it on your own. It is always better to call your Puja Phoenix Dentist as soon as possible when a dental emergency occurs, so they can better determine what treatment is needed. One type of dental emergency occurs when a tooth is knocked out.

Teeth can be knocked out due to accidents, sports injuries, or a punch or kick to the mouth. If you are unconscious at any point or if you have cuts that needs stitching, you will want to go to the emergency room. You will need to try to find the tooth that has been knocked out, and make sure to pick it up by the crown and not the root. Touching the root can cause damage to it that may prevent it from being able to be reattached to the bone. If you can’t find the knocked out tooth, you will need to see a doctor to make sure it wasn’t inhaled.

Once you have retrieved the tooth, you will need to rinse it off gently with cool water in order to remove dirt. However, DO NOT scrub the tooth, dry it off or wrap it in a tissue or cloth and remember, don’t touch the root. Also, there may be pieces of tissue attached to the tooth. Make sure NOT to remove them. After the tooth has been rinsed, you can try to place the tooth back in the socket with your fingers. Bite down and hold it in place with a clean cloth. You will want to get to a dentist as soon as possible. It is best to have it replaced within 30 minutes, but it absolutely should be reattached within an hour or two.

The tooth should be kept moist at all times. If you are unable to replace the tooth in the socket, you can place it in clean milk, contact lens saline, or saliva. A tooth can be stored in water (with a pinch of salt) for up to 15 minutes, saliva for 30 minutes, and in milk for up to an hour. You can also keep the tooth next to your cheek or under your lip, but you need to be careful not to swallow it.

Dentists reserve time in their daily schedules for emergency patients. When you call your dentist, make sure to provide as much information as possible: How long has it been since the tooth was knocked out? Do you have the tooth? Do you have any pain or swelling? If you have dental insurance, have this information ready as well in order to expedite the process. If you don’t have dental insurance, let them know so they can help you work out a payment plan. DO NOT avoid the dentist because of a lack of insurance. Puja Arizona Dentists are happy to help you with a payment plan if that is needed.

When a tooth is knocked out, it needs to be re-attached as soon as possible in order to save the tooth. If the tooth cannot be saved, you will still have dental issues that need addressed and in some cases, these can actually end up costing more money in the long wrong. Also, a delay in treatment can be dangerous due to increased risk of infection or other complications.

If the tooth cannot be saved, your Puja dentist can help you determine what course of treatment will be best for you. You may want to have the tooth replaced with an dental implant, a bridge or dentures. It is important to have the tooth replaced in order to avoid further complications such as chewing or speaking problems, the shifting of remaining teeth, TMJ disorders or a weakening of the jawbone. Once again, the sooner this is done, the better.
